There's now just one week left for the State of Wisconsin to either order a retrial or appeal the federal judge's overturning of Brendan Dassey's convictions.
Under federal law, the State of Wisconsin has 30 days to file an appeal - which means that another federal judge would review Brendan Dassey's case and make a decision on it. That means, by September 12th, Dassey will even closer to being freed.
Since the federal judge overturned Dassey's conviction, Wisconsin's attorney general, Brad Schimel, has had 30 days to file an appeal on the ruling and 90 days to order a retrial of his case. Given that there's almost no real evidence linking Dassey to the murder of Teresa Halbach and the incredible scrutiny his trial and investigation has been under, it's highly unlikely that a retrial will be ordered.
Schimel has said that his office has "made some decisions," but wouldn't comment on exactly what they were.

Kathleen Zellner, Steven Avery's current lawyer, tweeted out the news on Friday morning and also noted that she herself has lodged her appeal for scientific testing in Avery's case. There's no word yet on whether her appeal has been granted.
