After almost 18 years lingering on our screens, Big Brother is coming to an end according to a report in today's Daily Star.

The report states that Channel 5's contract with Endemol, the creators of the format, runs out this year - and bosses as the television studio believe it can no longer compete with the likes of Love Island.

UK ratings placed Love Island at three times the amount of viewers for Big Brother, and Channel 5's director of programmes, Ben Frow, stated in August of last year that he'd be "much happier with a channel that did not have Big Brother on it."

As it stands, neither Endemol nor Channel 5 have confirmed Daily Star's story, but it looks like it's the beginning of the end for a series that's been in a steady decline for many years.
