Most of us enjoy binge watching our favourite TV shows on Netflix. But after a while we just need to chill and what better way to do it than with a movie?

New data has been released from a study conducted by Netflix and they found that 60% of viewers take a break of around three days after binge watching a show before starting a new one. And what do they do during those three days? They watch movies.

“It’s interesting that in this golden age of television, movies are consistently in demand on Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “What we’ve come to figure out is that movies are really an important part of people’s viewing routines and complementary to the way they watch and enjoy TV.”

The data also found that there specific movie and TV show pairings that consistently cropped up. These pairings generally seemed to be based on the genre of the series they just binge watched.

After watching Narcos, people wanted to further expand their knowledge of the cartel so moved onto Cartel Land. Once done with Breaking Bad, many switched over to Pulp Fiction. The completion of the Gilmore Girls was generally followed by movies like Sixteen Candles, The Princess Bride and Dirty Dancing.

The below image illustrates the most popular binge pairings.

The data surveyed was across all of Netflix's markets so there were some movie titles that aren't available in certain regions.

Overall the results confirm that movies are vitally important to Netflix and will continue to be for some time.
