Yes, you read that right - another live-action adaptation of Lord Of The Rings is in the works.

Variety confirmed the news that Netflix's main streaming rival are now actively pursuing a TV series based on JRR Tolkien's seminal work, with Warner Bros. and the Tolkien estate behind the deal. There's no word yet if Peter Jackson or any of the original cast are involved, however it's understood that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has set acquiring the series as a priority.

Bezos ordered the streaming service to begin actively working on a large-scale production series in the vein of Game Of Thrones and snagging Lord of the Rings might just be the thing to do it. It's not yet known precisely if the TV series will be another adaptation of the source novel or if it will simply mine it for further stories or episodes.

So, thoughts? It's hard to say, really. If it's a follow-on from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, it could possibly work. You bring back the cast for another go-around and sure, it might be interesting. The smart move, of course, would be to try and take on The Silmarillion, Tolkien's posthumously released work which focused on the ancient history of Middle-Earth and has yet to be adapted.

Either way, it's exciting to see what happens with Lord of the Rings as it's an incredible piece of fiction that deserves its place in history.
