If you're over the age of 30, you'll be vaguely familiar with Dynasty.

It was basically the other '80s American TV soap about a rich family and all their scheming and backstabbing. Where Dallas was about oil riggers in Texas, Dynasty was about... oil riggers in Denver.

Original.

Anyway, the show was mostly known for two things - shoulder pads and Joan Collins - and it appears neither of these will feature in the upcoming, modernised reboot of the series. According to THR, a pilot episode has been ordered by The CW, with the hope that it'll be eventually commissioned for a full series.

The new series, according to the official press blurb, "will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington - daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington - and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal - a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class."

'80s TV reboots haven't always worked out, however. Dallas had a short-lived reboot with Larry Hagman returning as JR Ewing that ran from 2012 to 2014 before it was eventually cancelled.

Whether Dynasty suffers the same fate remains to be seen, but odds are that it'll make for some gloriously trashy television if it gets ordered to series.
