It's hard to believe, but it's been twelve years since Star Trek has been on TV.

In the interim, JJ Abrams rebooted the original series with a brand-new cast and turned it into a mainstream blockbuster franchise with the help of a fresh cast. However, many die-hard fans felt that Abrams' version of Star Trek wasn't in keeping with the original series and that it was diluting it for the sake of wider appeal.

That's where Star Trek Discovery comes in and, of course, there's the question of how it's all going to play out. Will it be more like the cerebral, thought-provoking Next Generation and DS9, or will it be more in keeping with Abrams' vision?

We'll know for sure tomorrow when Star Trek Discovery is added to Netflix worldwide from 6AM local time. In the meantime, the opening credits have gone online and it really does show how much of a departure the series is from what's come before.

Fans will remember that in both the original series, The Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager, the opening credits were made up of glory shots of the ship - or in DS9's case, the station - to stirring music, often composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

This time out, it's a lot different. Take a look.
