Last December former That '70s Show star Danny Masterson was axed from his role on Netflix's The Ranch due to allegations against him. The show will go on though and they have cast a new actor to star alongside Ashton Kutcher.

It's someone Kutcher knows very well too, as it's his former Punk'd partner-in-crime Dax Shepard. He will play former soldier Luke Matthews who comes to Garrison with some history concerning the Iron River Ranch. He meets the Bennetts and hits it off with them but Luke's past soon catches up with him.

Sources have told Deadline though that he is not a direct replacement for Masterson and will not be a series regular but a recurring guest star in the second half of The Ranch's upcoming 20-episode third season on Netflix. However he will no doubt fill the void left by the sudden exit of Masterson, who played Colt’s older brother Rooster.

This will mark Shepard's first series regular role since the end of NBC’s Parenthood in 2015 while other recent credits include CHIPS, which he wrote, directed and starred in, and Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later. Shepard, who is married to Kristin Bell, has also recently launched a podcast called Armchair Expert where he chats with creative personalities.
