Given the rise in gender dysphoria, which is when someone is unhappy with their biological sex, among children, this programme asks whether parents should be gender affirmative, which entails supporting the child’s gender identity, or otherwise. Dr Kenneth Zucker presents this documentary which argues that most children with gender dysphoria eventually overcome the feelings without transitioning. Since it has been announced, the show has provoked criticism on the basis of its subject matter and because of Dr Zucker’s history (which includes getting fired for a controversial study linking gender dysphoria to mental health issues and being denounced by transgender-affirmative activists). It has appropriately been described as a ‘challenging’ look at these issues.
