Zsa Zsa, named after the famed actor Zsa Zsa Gabor, has passed away just weeks after earning the title of World's Ugliest Dog.

The English Bulldog was awarded the title at the annual contest, and saw off competition from thirteen other dogs in the process. Zsa Zsa's owner, Megan Brainard, announced the news of her passing and said that the dog passed away in her sleep. The average life expectancy for English Bulldogs, sadly, is only eight to ten years.

Speaking to TODAY.com, Brainard said that she's "still in shock ... It’s kind of like when she won (the World's Ugliest Dog contest). It’s been two weeks and I still don’t believe it. It’s probably going to be the same with her passing." Despite Zsa Zsa's unusual appearance, she was truly a beloved dog and Brainard said that it was often like travelling with a celebrity.

Zsa Zsa even had her own Facebook page, where the news was first announced. Twitter account @IvePetThatDog - who was due to meet and pet Zsa Zsa - also posted the sad news about her passing.
