Paul Thomas Anderson's new film, Inherent Vice, sees Jaoquin Phoenix in some serious mutton-chops gallavanting his way through the 1960's.

This is the first ever film adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel, which is available in Easons right now. Private eye Doc Sportello’s ex-girlfriend tasks him with finding her current boyfriend. Seems easy, right? Wrong. He's been thrown in a mental asylum by his wife and her boyfriend in an attempt to steal his money.

It’s the tail end of the psychedelic '60s and paranoia is running the day. Doc knows that “love” is another one of those words going around like “trip” or “groovy,” that’s being way too overused - except this one usually leads to trouble.

With a cast of characters that includes surfers, hustlers, dopers and rockers, a murderous loan shark, LAPD Detectives, a tenor sax player working undercover, and a mysterious entity known as the Golden Fang, which may only be a tax dodge set up by some dentists. Part surf noir, part psychedelic romp - all Thomas Pynchon.

To score yourself some tickets to a very special preview of Inherent Vice and a very hip after-party at The Light House Cinema, all you've gotta do is pop on over to our competition section and answer the simple question - it's that simple!

INHERENT VICE, cert 16, opens across Ireland on 30 January.
