You really have to wonder why exactly people decide to eat Carolina Reapers in front of a camera.

Obviously, it's for attention and, watching this, you have to wonder if they're playing up the reaction for the camera or if it's really that bad. As you'll see in this video from YouTuber Lizzy Wurst, it goes wrong pretty quickly and ends up getting kinda serious.

A little bit of light reading while you're digesting all that - the Carolina Reaper registers at 1,570,000 Scoville heat units (not 2.1 as mentioned in the video), which is the scale used for the pungency of peppers. As of 2013, the Carolina Reaper is the hottest pepper in the world, having previously beaten the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, which registered at 1,200,000 SHUs.

The world record, incidentally, for eating Carolina Reapers is twenty-two peppers in sixty seconds. 22 peppers.

Think about that.
