Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If that sea lion ever got a chance he'd drag you and every one you care about into the water.

A family day out took a terrifying turn over the weekend when a girl was dragged from the docks into the water by a sea lion. The incident happened in Richmond, near Vancouver, Canada.

Crowds had gathered at the docks to look at the sea lion who was surfaced in the water below. As you can see in the video below the crowds were thrilled to get to see the sea creature up close but the excitement soon turned to terror when the sea lion made an unexpected move.

The strength it displayed in yanking the girl off the docks with seemingly minimal effort is truly frightening. Thankfully man in the video was able to free her and get her back to safety. It is not known if he was related to the girl.

CBC NEWS spoke to Andrew Trites, the director of UBC's Marine Mammal Research Unit, about the animal's behaviour in the video.

"My first reaction to the video is just how stupid some people can be to not treat wildlife with proper respect," he said. "This was a male California sea lion. They are huge animals. They are not circus performers. They're not trained to be next to people."

Huge animal's indeed. California Sea Lions can weigh as much as 860 pounds.
