38-year-old Brazilian Rodrigo Koxa is now the official Guinness World Records title holder for the largest wave surfed (unlimited). The wave measured 24.38 m (80 ft) and Koza rode it at Nazaré, off the coast of Portugal, on November 8th 2017.

He was awarded for the accomplishment at the Quiksilver XXL Biggest Wave awards by the World Surf League (WSL) at an event in California last weekend. Koxa now has his Guinness World Records prize to put alongside it.

The previous best also took place at Nazaré. American Garrett McNamara rode a 23.77 m (78 ft) wave on 1st November 2011.
