If ever there was a day we needed a pick me up it's today and right on cue John Lewis have released their Christmas advert for 2016.

Buster the Boxer is the star of this year's show as he watches on enviously at the wildlife, including two foxes and a badger, that make use of the family's new trampoline on Christmas eve.

As had already been reported, the song giving life to the visuals is by electronic trio, Vaults, who did a cover of Randy Crawford's 1980 single One Day I'll Fly Away.

The ad is a big change in tone from last year's Man on the Moon advert which some felt was slightly bleak. The 2016 edition marks a move towards a more comedic.

Craig Inglis, customer director at John Lewis, said: “2016 has certainly been quite a year, so we hope our advert will make people smile. It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels to give the perfect gift at Christmas.”

The ad cost £1m to make and was shot completely on a set in London with the wildlife and bouncing Buster all achieved through CGI.
