Directed by Oscar-winning Michel Gondry (who either really needs to look at his rates or took home one hell of a paycheck for this), this year's John Lewis Christmas ad stars a cute boy and a monster that lives under his bed, and while it has major 'Monsters, Inc.' vibes, it's leaving some feeling a little cold.

Unfortunately you're going to have to submit yourself to Guy Garvey's droopy tones as the song on this year's ad is an Elbow cover of The Beatles' 'Golden Slumbers'. So that's one reason to be glad it won't feature on TV ads here in Ireland.

Reaction to the ad has been split, with some warming to Moz the Monster, while others lamenting the retailer's choice, saying they "lost their magic touch".

Watch below and decide for yourself.
