Barack Obama easily ranks as one of the people you have to feel the most sympathy for following Donald Trump's election win.

Whether he keeps his promises or not remains to be seen, but Trump has pledged to repeal every executive order that Obama made during his presidency. It can't be easy having to congratulate the man who is promising to undo all of the hard work you did during the previous eight years.

It was almost through gritted teeth that Obama promised a peaceful transition of power to President elect Trump and reassured disappointed Hillary supporters. It was during the latter that we were afforded a brief moment of levity from Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

"I've lost elections before," he said. "Joe hasn't, but you know."

Biden offered a side hug to Obama before quipping "You beat me badly,"  referring to his own ill-fated presidential campaign in 2008.

We all wish we had a Joe Biden by our side this week.
