Never count your chickens before they're hatched and definitely never start celebrating before you cross the finish line.

Cyclist Jamie Wilkins learned this the hard way at the conclusion of the Britain's Via Roma Cirencester Twilight Criterium when he came within touching distance of the finish line and bafflingly decided to start celebrating despite the fact that his nearest opponents were just behind him.

The below slow motion video captures the moment in all its glory as the guy in second place takes advantage of Wilkins' premature celebration.

If you're wondering how Wilkins was feeling inside when he realised he lost the race, just take a look at the guy in the green t-shirt in the crowd whose delight turns to horror in a split second.
