WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka has passed away, aged 73.

Snuka had been suffering from stomach cancer in recent months. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was among those who broke the news on social media.

In a career that spanned from his debut in 1968 to his last bit of in ring action in 2009, Jimmy Snuka became one of the most popular and influential wrestlers ever to enter a WWE ring. Arguably his most famous moment was when he leaped from the top of the steel cage and splashed Don Muraco. Mick Foley has credited the moment as one of the main inspirations for his own wrestling career.

In recent years Snuka has become embroiled in a number of controversies. He is one of a number of former WWE superstars who are suing the company for brain injuries and was also charged with the 1983 murder of his then girlfriend, Nancy Argentino.

However earlier this month he was deemed unfit to stand trial and the charges were dropped.
