Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week, you’ve probably heard the 2018 Oscars results and you probably know that The Shape of Water won Best Picture.

When the winning film was announced on Sunday night, director Guillermo del Toro as well as stars of the film Sally Hawkins, Doug Jones, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, and Michael Stuhlbarg rushed onstage to celebrate the victory.

Absent however was Michael Shannon, who played the villain in the fantasy flick, but the actor was hardly just sitting at home.

The night of the Oscars clashed with the final performance of Brett Neveu’s “Traitor” at Chicago’s A Red Orchid Theatre. Shannon was directing the production for a theatre company he co-founded in his late teens.

Afterward, he went around the corner to The Old Town Ale House where, according to a tweet from Old Town Ale House owner Bruce Elliott, Shannon caught the end of the awards telecast, on mute with just subtitles.

If that’s not peak Michael Shannon, we don’t know what is.
