Donald Trump's time with foreign dignitaries really does provide fertile ground for embarrassment, which in turn makes him even more of a laughing stock than he already is.

So far, the Polish PM's wife left him hanging, he had a horrendously awkward handshake with French PM Emmanuel Macron, and then he had an equally awkward handshake with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe - and it's here where there's a new gaffe for poor 'ol Donald Trump. In an interview with the New York Times, Trump talked about Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and brought up the fact that he was seated next to Abe's wife, Akie Abe, who - according to Trump - "doesn't speak English. Like, not hello."

Well, as it turns out, the Internet has receipts of Akie Abe speaking pretty much perfect English at a symposium on coastal resilience in 2014. In New York, no less.

So, one of two things happened here. Either Akie Abe simply feigned ignorance so as not to talk to Donald Trump (completely understandable) or Donald Trump was too stupid not to realise that she could actually speak English - and probably speak it better than him (completely plausible).

You decide, but our money is on Akie Abe pretending she didn't speak English because who needs that.
