Have you heard the one about the seven priests that walked into a bar..?

It sounds like a hoax, but sure these things happen.

Reportedly, seven Roman Catholic seminarians (student priests) were looking forward to celebrating a colleague's ordination at the City Arms pub in Cardiff, Wales, with some pints.

Dressed in their traditional clerical robes and collars when they arrived, the doorman reportedly told them “sorry gents, we have a policy of no fancy dress and no stag dos.”

The group initially thought it was a joke, until it became clear he was serious. They tried to convince him they were real with no results. According to assistant manager, Matt Morgan: "The staff thought they were a stag. We do have quite a few issues on the weekends with parties wearing fancy dress so it is our policy to turn them away."

The seven priests were about to leave when the bar manager approached them. One of the priests, Father Doyle stated: "He basically said, 'you're real, aren't you?'

"He invited them back in and when they walked back in the entire pub burst into a round of applause, and they had a free round off The City Arms."

Fr Doyle said the group stayed at the pub most of the afternoon chatting to customers. Mr Morgan said the priests were "all great sports and saw the funny side of the situation."
