It's not every day you get to see an engine rip apart on your flight, and even rarer still is getting to take a picture of it and share it on Twitter.

Air France Flight 66 was due to set off from Los Angeles to Paris earlier today when it was forced to make an emergency landing in Goose Bay, Canada after one of its four engines suffered heavy damage in mid-air at 37,000 feet.

The plane landed safely and all passengers made it off the aircraft, but the damage to the engine looked pretty catastrophic.

According to passenger reports, they heard a low thud during the flight, followed by a lot of vibration before the plane diverted to Canada for its emergency landing. Air France released a statement shortly after tweets and images appeared online, saying that "AF66 landed safely. Customers taken care by Air France and rerouting solutions on going."
