If you've ever flown in the States, you'll be aware that seeing a dog, cat or small animal on board is becoming less and less of a novelty.

This is because the rules regarding 'emotional-support' animals have been relaxed in recent years; essentially, if an animal has been medically proven to be beneficial to a person with a disability - and they have a letter from their doctor saying so, of course - they can bring them on board.

Cats and dogs: understandable. Peacocks? Not so much.

Believe it or not, a woman tried to board a United Airlines flight at Newark Airport with the (very large) bird as her ESA last weekend, and the resultant photo has gone viral.

The Jet Set shared it to Facebook, adding that United has denied the bird passage because it "did not meet guidelines for a number of reasons, including its weight and size.”

"We explained this to the customer on three separate occasions before they arrived at the airport," they said in a statement.

According to other people who have commented on the post and met the woman and her bird in other places, the peacock's name is Dexter.
