Good news for retro Pokemon fans out there. Video game developers Neowin are releasing a device that will let you play retro Gameboy games on your smartphone.

Originally teased as an April Fool's joke last year, Hyperkin's Smart Boy was on display in fully functional form at E3 this week and December release date is heavily rumoured.

The Smart Boy was designed to be a better way to play retro games on your smartphone without having to resort to awful on-screen touchscreen controls. It has a button layout and color scheme reminiscent of Nintendo’s original Game Boy and even accepts classic Game Boy cartridges via a slot on the back.

One drawback however is that although the device was originally designed to be compatible with IOS and Android it seems at the moment that the latest design means it will only be for the latter.
