In case you missed it over the weekend, Michael Shannon has revealed that he will never play Donald Trump and his explanation for why is pure Michael Shannon.

The actor has played numerous villains over the years, not least in last year’s Best Picture Oscar winner ‘The Shape of Water’, but he has no interest in playing the American president.

In an interview with Playboy, Shannon answered ‘No’ when asked if there was ‘a part of [him] that would want to play Donald Trump’ and when pressed ‘Just to get inside his head’ and play Trump as someone ‘struggl[ing] with demons’, Shannon answered: “[Trump is] having a blast! Are you f***ing kidding me? That guy is having so much fun.

“He doesn’t even have to work. All the hard work that most people have to do to get to be president of the United States, he just skipped all that. The f***ing guy doesn’t even know what’s in the Constitution. He doesn’t have any grasp of history or politics or law or anything. He’s just blindfolded, throwing darts at the side of a bus.”

Upon being asked ‘So Trump is where your capacity for empathy ends?’, the actor answered ‘What is there to be empathetic toward?’ (Oooof) and when queried what he thinks is going through Trump’s head at night, Shannon again didn’t hold back:

“He’s probably thinking, I want some f***ing p***y. I don’t know. I’m not going to remotely contemplate the notion that Trump is capable of deep reflection.”

He concluded: “F***that guy. When he’s alone with his thoughts, he’s not capable of anything more complex than ‘I want some p***y and a cheeseburger. Maybe my wife will blow me if I tell her she’s pretty.'”
