You might have read these productions in a book or seen them on the big screen but seeing their theatrical versions is another story altogether.

The Bord Gais Energy Theatre has a jam-packed schedule for next year and it includes some of the most critically acclaimed shows ever. Spanning drama and comedy, magic, dance, opera and Broadway musicals, there’s something for everyone here.

Some of the productions in the 2017 programme, announced today, include the Moscow City Ballet’s productions of Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, two of Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballets, and a Moscow State Opera production of Carmen, which will star Irish soprano Celine Byrne. Speaking of Irish stars, Laura Whitmore will also be heading to the stage for the drama production of Peter James’s I’m Not Dead.

There will also be some incredible magic shows in January of next year, including The Illusionists, which is coming to Ireland for the first time, and La Cage Aux Folles.

West End and Broadway musicals coming to the theatre include Cameron Mackintosh's Miss Saigon, which will play for seven weeks across October and November, as well as The Addams Family, Crazy For You starring Tom Chambers, and a new musical called Wonderland. The classics will also be there, including Evita, Funny Girl, and Grease, the latter of which stars The Wanted's Tom Parker.

The critically acclaimed The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time returns. Other shows back by popular demand include Sister Act, Hairspray, Blood Brothers, West Side Story, and Dirty Dancing.

John Cleese, Mia Farrow, Colonel Chris Hadfield and Alexandra Costeau will be involved in the special event Unique Lives in which they will be interviewed on what motivates, challenges and inspires them.

Other special events include the world premiere of Sleepless, a romantic comedy musical based on the Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan rom com classic Sleepless in Seattle, and a musical adaptation of Angela’s Ashes.

Musicians that are heading to Bord Gais include Conor Oberst, Gilbert O’Sullivan, Tommy Fleming, The Divine Comedy, Pink Martini, Chris over 2017 de Burgh, John Prine, The Beach Boys, and an already sold-out performance by Kraftwerk 3D.
