If you think data roaming charges in Europe are bad, try spending some time in Brazil.

Anyone using data in Brazil without a decent bill plan is putting themselves directly in the line of fire. Such as Japanese Olympian Kohei Uchimura.

The five times medalist has been in Rio for the past month as he prepares for the games and often played Pokémon GO in his down time to help him unwind. However when he received his phone bill we reckon he was so wound up not even Pikachu and co could offer him some relief.

His bill amounted to roughly €4,500. A fair chunk of change by anyone's standards.

Kohei was shellshocked from the discovery, with one of his teammates noting that “He looked dead at the team meal that day.”

His Japanese provider offer the "very reasonable" rate of €27 a day for data allowance but unfortunately for him, his Pokémon GO habit saw him connect to a whole host of different networks during the day. Which saw his bill grow exponentially.

Luckily for Uchimura, his provider decided to cut him a break and wipe the bill clean after he called them to explain the situation. We suppose it would look great for their public image if they were holding a national hero hostage over their phone bill.
