Newstalk has announced that George Hook will be returning to the station's schedule on Saturday.

Hook will be presenting 'Hook's Saturday Sit-in' from 8am-10am, a show that includes interviews, reviews, regular items on travel, music and US politics.

The controversial radio host was suspended from his High Noon show last September after controversial comments he made about rape sparked a huge negative reaction.

Managing Editor Patricia Monahan's statement read that Hook's comments "were totally wrong and inappropriate and should never have been made." The presenter offered a "profound apology" for his comments while the radio statement also offered a full apology.

Hook had originally been pencilled in for a December return, but that was pushed back to January.

Further additions to the Newstalk schedule were also announced. Tech Correspondent Jess Kelly will present Tech Talk, news presenter Andrea Gilligan will host a current affairs and politics-based show called Between the Lines and reporter Kieran Cuddihy will present current affairs show, On the Record from January 13.
