In an unprecedented-but-not-all-that-shocking move, President Donald Trump will not attend this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner.
The annual black-tie event brings together to White House press corps with members of the ruling administration and is often MC'd by a well-known comedian, who often makes a target of both the sitting President and their policies, allies, and enemies. Previous WHCA Dinners have featured particularly biting sets from the likes of Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Joel McHale.
Donald Trump himself was famously the victim of a particularly biting and sarcastic bit from Barack Obama, in which he called out Trump's birther campaign and mocked him on a number of issues.
While no specific reason was given for his non-attendance, Trump banned a number of media outlets that have posted factual news and information that was critical of Trump and his administration from a press briefing on Friday. The move, which is unprecedented in White House history, was slammed by the White House Correspondents' Association, who are directly responsible for the event in question.
It's not yet known if the White House Correspodents' Dinnner will go ahead as planned with Trump's absence.
