Donald Trump rejected a potential candidate for the position of Secretary of State because he didn't like his bushy moustache.

That's according to insiders close to the President elect at least. The Washington Post have quoted several of Trump's associates who believe, John Bolton's facial hair cost him the chance at getting the position despite his strong credentials.

“Donald was not going to like that mustache,” said one, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “I can’t think of anyone that’s really close to Donald that has a beard that he likes.”

“That’s the language he speaks. He’s very aesthetic,” said one person familiar with the transition team’s internal deliberations. “You can come with somebody who is very much qualified for the job, but if they don’t look the part, they’re not going anywhere.”

Given Trump's background as a showman who ran beauty pageants as a sideline, it probably shouldn't be too surprising that he places a lot of stock in people's physical attributes.

“Don’t forget, he’s a showbiz guy. He was at the pinnacle of showbiz, and he thinks about showbiz. He sees this as a business that relates to the public.”

“The look might not necessarily be somebody who should be on the cover of GQ magazine or Vanity Fair,” said Chris Ruddy, chief executive of Newsmax Media and a longtime friend of Donald Trump's.“It’s more about the look and the demeanor and the swagger.”
