Brussels sprouts leave man in hospital
Now you have the perfect excuse to avoid the nasty little blighters on Christmas day. The staple of Christmas dinners all over the country (and there's always someone at the table who actually likes them) are high in vitamin K, which the body uses to clot blood and one man last year went a bit mental on the leafy greens over Christmas and ended up in hospital. Turns out the British man had been prescribed anticoagulants to thin his blood after a heart failure earlier in the year, and was on a daily dose of pills to pop. He baffled doctors when he was first admitted until they realised his diet had taken a sudden swing for the seasonal. Apparently it was the first-ever admission due to the consumption of brussels sprouts, which is surprising. Surely someone has gagged and almost lost their life over the vile things somewhere in history.
