Anyone who has a beloved pet will be all too aware of the bond between animal and human, and the devastation that it can cause when you lose them.

If you're Barbra Streisand, however, there's a solution of-sorts that may soften the blow.

The singer's beloved 14-year-old dog Samantha died last year, but as she revealed in a new interview with Variety, she had the animal cloned - twice.

The new Coton du Tulear pups are called Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett, and Streisand revealed that she had Samantha's DNA taken from her mouth and stomach in order to clone her.

She said: "They have different personalities. I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have [Samantha’s] brown eyes and seriousness.”

What d'you reckon - a step too far, or is she just A Woman in Love (with her dog)?

Missing my girl Samantha. Look at those eyes... the depth in them. Her Mom xo.
