The newest addition to Sydney Harbour was named by public vote and thankfully democracy is once again victorious.

Ferry McFerryface is now the official name of the latest in a new fleet of ferries in Sydney, Australia after a competition allowed the name to be chosen by the public.

However, the winning name was actually Boaty McBoatface, but to avoid a clash or any confusion, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said they made the decision to make the name slightly more appropriate.

"Given Boaty was already taken by another vessel, we've gone with the next most popular name nominated by Sydneysiders," Mr Constance said.

"Ferry McFerryface will be the harbour's newest icon, and I hope it brings a smile to the faces of visitors and locals alike. This one is for the kids."

Obviously, the internet is delighted.
