Apple has admitted that their new products will only last a few years.

On the environment section of their site they say ‘Years of use, which are based on first owners, are assumed to be four years for OS X and tvOS devices and three years for iOS and watchOS devices.'

So your 600 odd quid phone might last 3 years, while a laptop could get you to 4 or so. This is based on a first time owner and doesn't take in account a rehaul of the device - so if you spend a few quid in a tech store to replace some components etc. There are now more regular updates than ever, but the current operating system (iOS 9) will still run on an iPhone from 2011.

Hardly surprising stuff, but it is slightly surprising to hear them say it. We all have that one mate who has an extremely old iPhone. They're almost retro at this stage.

We still have our 3210. Great phone that doubled as a weapon when need be.
