In 2011, emojis were added to iPhone keyboards and before long, emojis became one of the fastest-growing languages in the world.
In fact, it's reached such a stage that a translation agency in London is looking to hire an Emoji Translation Specialist for its team. Speaking to the BBC, Today Translations director Jurga Zilinskiene explained that she needed "someone to translate diaries into emojis for one of her clients", but couldn't find anyone skilled enough to do it.
So far, Jurga has received thirty applications for the job and hopes to have someone hired before the end of the year. Her job posting describes the role as intended for someone who "should be able to demonstrate a passion for emojis, combined with cutting-edge knowledge and awareness of areas of confusion and cultural/international differences."
A translation test featuring emojis is also part of the interview process. As well as translating emojis, the candidate is also expected to produce a monthly brief on "emoji trends, developments, usage and areas of confusion and cultural differences."
The exact salary wasn't revealed, but it's understood to be competitive. Yes, this is totally a real job and to prove it, you can even apply for the role here.
