The importance of switching of your smartphone or tablet during takeoff is repeatedly emphasised on every flight you go on.
And yet, is there any of us that hasn't forgotten to switch off our phones during a flight on at least one occasion?
Are we putting ourselves and those around us in mortal danger every time we do this or is it, as we suspect, a relatively harmless thing to do?
According to one EasyJet pilot, if anything it's the latter. Chris Foster says that leaving your device on during takeoff probably won't do any harm.
"In reality, nothing to be concerned about. Aircraft control systems are so sophisticated now, that they wouldn't cause any interference," Foster told the Mirror. "The regulations date back many years to when we didn't even have things like iPads.The laws are starting to be relaxed - you can now use your devices in flight safety mode - and I think we'll see more changes over the next few years."
So there you have it. The odd phone being left on isn't going to make much of a difference. Foster also debunked the common fear about someone opening the door of the plane while it's in the air.
"The aircraft is pressurised and the doors are what we call 'plug doors', which prevents them from being opened until the pressure is released." Foster said.
