Ireland claimed not one but two spots in the new Lonely Planet list of the top 50 secret spots for travellers in Europe.
The ebook Secret Europe, 50 Truly Unforgettable Experiences to Inspire Your Next Trip ranked the Cromane Peninsula in Kerry as number five on its list, while well known pub John Kavanaghs, or Gravediggers, as it's more commonly known, nabbed the number 46th spot.
The ebook focuses on the more undiscovered and secret locations and experiences to be had around Europe. Speaking about the book the publisher said, 'Many of our favourite experiences remain unknown to most travellers, so we've created a sampler of clandestine nightclubs, secret hotels, killer views, off -the-radar villages and more to inspire your next trip.'
The Cromane Peninsula won the guys at lonely planet over with 'it's spectacular water vistas and multi-hued sunsets'. While Kavanaghs pub is described as a 'cracking little establishment.' Situated close to Glasnevin Cemetery, the pub is a family owned pub and run by Eugene Kavanagh.
Eugene said, 'It's an original pub, and I'm the sixth generation Kavanagh to run the joint. I still live over the premises and reared a family here. We're a traditional pub and we carry on as we've always done, but to be successful you also have to be different - which we also are.'
