Top Ten Theatre Productions of 2012: #8 and #7

Yuval Pick’s Score came to town as part of the Dublin Dance Festival, and the sheer voracity of the dancers seemed endless and was a joy to behold. The performers gave their all in this commentary of Israeli life, sweat and tears in abundance and if we’d asked, I’m sure they would have given the audience blood too, such was their commitment and passion to the performance. The stamina and drive and use of space were all fully used without ever feeling overdone, and when it all came to end, you felt like you’d run a mile. Fantastic dance performances seen all too rarely in our capital.

#7 The Russian State Ballet's Swan Lake
Making a brief appearance in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in March, The Russian State Ballet’s Swan Lake was the most flawless and beautiful piece of ballet I’ve yet to see grace our shores. While very traditional and very conservative, the performances by the entire troupe were seamless and stunning, while the prima ballerina stole the show with effortless grace. The quintessential performance of the ballet staple, it had everyone en pointe as the curtain fell.
