Score - Dublin Dance Festival 2012
Israeli born choreographer Yuval Pick's submission to this year's Dublin Dance Festival Score is a visceral, energetic and non-stop whirlwind of dance. Incorporating three young performers, stunning sound and lighting design, Score takes Pick's own experiences and commentary on Israeli life and crafts a truly hypnotic and engaging piece full of high energy acrobatics perfectly counterbalanced with moments of extreme tenderness and sincerity.
The stamina levels of the performers appear to be superhuman, as they rarely have a break between either solo and group segments in the 55 minute piece. Sometimes supportive and other times combative, the skill of the French trio is exceptional, constantly evolving fluidly and dynamically. While the narrative is somewhat clouded, the sensational sound and lighting design do more than enough to inform the viewer, with a soundscape of Israel contributing significantly. The lighting and staging also make use of Project Arts Centre's facilities to a level on par with dance heavyweights that has to be seen to be believed. And when all these elements come together, the result is a truly astounding piece of theatre.
