Once The Musical | The Gaiety Theatre

8 time Tony Award Winning Once The Musical is making its European premiere in the Gaiety Theatre opening on the 22nd February. Pretty fitting considering it all started out in Dublin back in 2006 when Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová took to the silver screen in what turned out to be an Oscar award winning film.

Then in 2012 a musical adaption opened in Broadway to rave reviews going on to win 8 Tonys including Best New Musical. Now in 2013, European audiences will get to see what the fuss is all about (but we get to see it first).

Once tells the story of a Dublin Busker (Guy played by Declan Bennett) and a Czech immigrant (Girl played by Zrinka Cvitšić ) who are drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one eventful week, this unexpected friendship evolves into a powerful and complicated love story.

But what really makes this production stand out is the fact that each member of the cast is an über talent musician as well as a singer and actor. They have no orchestral arrangement, but rather each song is accompanied live on stage by the actors themselves.

If you’re a fan of the original movie; of Glen and Marketa’s music or if you're just a musical fan in general ,this is one show you do not want to miss.

Once runs in The Gaiety Theatre from the 22nd February – 9th March at 7.30pm. Matinees: 27th Feb and 2th, 6th, 9th March at 2.30pm. Tickets: €21.50 – €49.50.
