Loughcrew Opera Festival 2012 | Preview

Injecting a little classical into the festival season this year, the 13th annual Loughcrew Opera Festival, taking place in Oldcastle Co. Meath also promises something a bit more mischievous with a double-bill of aerial dance and classical arias set to delight audiences on July 20th and 21st.
Kicking things off on both evenings is Australian aerial artist Dawn Pascoe of dance troupe Fidget Feet, whose tapeze shows mix together the sultry, the sensational and the death-defying in equal measure. Following that is the main event, Mozart’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’, which features some of the most popular and familiar music from the classical world. A flamboyant production by Opera A La Carte, The Marraige of Figaro features live wind quartet and piano accompaniment, as well as an accomplished cast featuring one of our very own in the form of rising Irish soprano Norah King.
Billed as “the perfect evening of love, lust and intrigue”, the critical acclaim and enthusiastic responses from audiences last year all but guaranteed a return for Opera A La Carte to the festival, and with the lush surrounds of Loughcrew gardens as host, you’d be hard pushed to find a more memorable operatic showcase this summer.
