Chatting With The Space Cowboy | SPWC 2012

Interview by: Caroline Foran
Ahead of the Laya Healthcare Street Performance World Championships, we catch up with last year's reigning champion - The Space Cowboy.
Last time we caught up you were gearing up for SPWC 2011, how did you enjoy that year's festival?
I have enjoyed all of my performances so far at the Laya Healthcare Street Performance World Championships! The crowds are some of the best in the world and the festival organizers are the best too! They always book an incredible variety of acts and that makes the festival a lot of fun for the performers and for the audiences.
Congratulations on winning, how did that feel?
I feel extremely honoured to win the Laya Healthcare Street Performance World Championships because I know that the best acts from all over the world are competing for this title. It is the most prestigious award that you can win as a street performer and I am very proud to have won this title three times!
How has winning this changed your life?
Winning the award has definitely raised my profile considerably. It has helped me get more bookings all around the world and since the first time I won the competition I have performed in more than 20 countries!
What have you been up to the past year?
I have done a lot since I was in Dublin last. I now hold 11 'Guinness World Records' for my unusual acts and I have been featured on many TV shows. I defiantly keep myself busy with my shows.
Are you looking forward to coming back?
I love Dublin and I love the Laya healthcare Street Performance World Championships'! I am extremely excited every time I get invited back to perform at this amazing festival.
What do you expect from this year's festival?
Every year the festival just gets better and better! Last year seemed like it was as good as a festival can get but every year the festival organizers surprise me with an even better program and lots of fun and exciting things to do.
What kind of performers are you most looking forward to seeing?
I love the varity of acts that the festival books, so I am looking forward to seeing all the amazing acts. The Festival only books the best of the best so I am going to try to see all the acts that I possibly can!
What is the key to a winning performance - no matter what the genre of performance is?
I think that confidence in what you are doing is something you need to have. It helps to have amazing skills but to tell the truth it does not matter what you do as long as you believe in what you are doing and you present it in an interesting and fun way.
What can we expect from YOUR performance this year as compared with last years'?
I don't want to give too much away. I always try to bring something new to the festival to make it exciting for myself and for my audiences, this year will be no exception! I will be performing some of my very best acts. I can't wait to be in Dublin again!!!
Any new surprises?
The Street Performance World Championships is a must see festival. If you have been to the festival before you know it will be full of surprises! Expect the unexpected.
