ABSOLUT Fringe 2012 | Hipsters We Met and Liked | The Company

Star Rating: 3.5/5

Venue: Samuel Beckett Theatre - Space 2
Review by: Aoife Ryan

ABSOLUT(ely)
: Beguiling
In a nutshell: Two hipsters run through a slideshow of photographs from around the world, breaking in between shots for comic explanations and back-story
Best for: Anyone who likes photography and anything alternative
Not for: People who hate the overtly trendy

On entering the candlelit room in the Samuel Beckett Theatre, you are greeted with a refreshments table of (ABSOLUT I'm guessing) vodka and tonic/cranberry in jam jars, readying you for the hipster movement you are about to encounter. Nyree and Brian, both hipsters and photographers, begin the kooky performance with a suitably quirky introduction, talking photographs of themselves and the audience after a brief hello. They then explain the aim of the show- to collect images from across the globes that represent something undoubtedly cool.

The photography slideshow lives up to their (and our) expectations as they are all good examples of fresh or edgy photography but without any serious pretension. What really makes the show are the two theatrical individuals running it. It is their personalities that drive it forward, as it is just as much as comedy sketch as it is a photography display. The two performers are very much in sync with each other, with the forty-five minute performance flying by. After seeing it once, you will definitely want to see more from this duo.
