Singer Ian Watkins, formerly of the Welsh band Lostprophets, has had an appeal against his 29 year jail sentence for child sex abuse dismissed today in the Cardiff Court of Appeal.

Watkins had contested his sentence, claiming that the length of the term was unreasonably harsh but Christopher Pitchford, one of the judges considering the case, dismissed his appeal outright.

"These offences against children were of shocking depravity...a very lengthy prison sentence was demanded", Pitchford said.

A female accomplice of Watkins also had an appeal against her 17 year sentence rejected.
