Twenty years after its initial release, Portishead's groundbreaking album will be on record store shelves once more.

Portishead who, along with Outkast and Beck, will headline Electric Picnic in a matter of weeks will reissue their landmark album 'Dummy' on vinyl, as announced on the band's official website.

The first 1,000 presses of the album will be on a special blue vinyl, with all copies after this revering to the more typical heavyweight black vinyl. Unfortunately the record won't contain any additional material but each copy will come complete with a digital download of the album.

The concept of reissuing classic records has become standard practice in the music industry lately but could be seen as quite surprising in Portishead's case, given an interview they did in 2011 with Rolling Stone in which they dismissed reissues as a cynical means to extract more money from the consumer.

Portishead founder Geoff Barrow explained to the magazine: " No, unfortunately special editions have been a dirty word because they've just basically been a tool of the industry to try and squeeze more money out of the fan or the music buyer. We would only do that if we were maybe forced into it by some label contractual thing."

Looks like you should have read the small print, lads.

Portishead play Electric Picnic across the weekend of 28th to 31st August.
