Summer Sessions music festival cancelled
Following some high profile cancellations the Summer Sessions music festival in Dublin's Iveagh Gardens has been cancelled. The Stranglers and The Human League both released statements withdrawing from the festival due to the promoter's failure to fulfil the terms of the agreed contract.
Sharon Shannon, Razorlight, Stereo MCs, The Undertones and The High Kings were also scheduled to perform.
The bands both also claimed that emails and phone calls were no longer being returned and they were left with no choice but to pull out. According to a statement from the Human League, they "tried our very best to ensure this concert took place but without some guarantee our costs will be reimbursed to us, we cannot book air tickets, ferries and so on, so events are now beyond our control.”
John Greaney of The Event Company, promoter of Summer Sessions, laid the blame on poor ticket sales for the cancellation saying that only about €50,000 worth of income had been received from ticket sales. He said he expects to have total outgoings of up to €200,000 when all is said and done and added that all ticket buyers will be fully refunded.
