With acts like Manic Street Preachers, The Coronas, Tom Odell and Wild Beasts on the bill for this year's Indiependence festival, you'd be forgiven for thinking you've enough to be getting on with with the musical end of things.

However, the Cork festival, which takes place in Mitchelstown from August 4th - 6th, has just unveiled a pretty impressive line-up for their spoken word & comedy programme this year.

Performance poet Stephen James Smith, will be joined by Jinx Lennon and musical comedy act T.P.M. (Tax Payers' Money) - "a mix of Rubberbandits, David Byrne and The Specials” - across the weekend.

Also on the bill is National Slam Champion Abby Oliveira, author and former Munster slam champion Cormac Lally, hip-hop artist and political commentator Captain Moonlight, American artist, actor, rapper and dancer Lady Grew and performance poet Wasps vs Humans.

The Culture Vultures pop culture programme, hosted by Irish Times journalist Tony Clayton-Lea, will return for a second year, while comedy will be repped in the shape of Totally Wired, Willy White, Emmanuel Idama, Bernard Casey, Oisin Hanlon, Julie Johnston and Damo Clark.
