John Spillane Live Performance at CORK X SOUTHWEST 2009 The official festival of us The Showgrounds; Skibbereen; West CorkSaturday August 1st; 2009 Despite monsoon rain over West Cork on Friday; the sun gods smiled all day long on the Showgrounds in Skibbereen on Saturday August 1st for Murphy?s presents Cork X Southwest. Over two and a half thousand people descended on the one day music and arts festival; with many a cool; creamy pint of Murphy?s supped. Topping the bill were the legendary Waterboys; with Mike Scott and company thrilling the gathered masses with their biggest hits. Mercury Prize nominated songstress Lisa Hannigan was on top form and Jerry Fish and his Mudbug Club delivered their swamp crooner moves in blazing style. Cork acts were strongly featured on the main stage; with Ian Whitty; John Spillane and Fred taking it in turn to ramp up the huge audience. The De Barra?s Sitting Room Sessions were a huge draw on the day and featured a host of artists including comedian David O?Doherty and top indie bands Si Schroeder and Villagers. The Eclectic Tent was jam packed from early on; with wandering poets; drama performances and singer songwriters; before transforming into a dance arena with top Cork DJ John Daly exploding the decks; before a send off set from Dublin techno DJ Sunil Sharpe. A huge success for all involved; the next installment of Cork X Southwest will return in 2010.FREE TO USE
