Citron at The Fitzwilliam Hotel

Citron at The Fitzwilliam Hotel rated 2(1 Comment 1 Comment )

Effortlessly positioned on the mezzanine level overlooking the hotel lobby, Citron is for people with a lust for life. The design is characterised by the colour palate; zesty lime and lemons off set against the chalky white terrazzo, the woven white bar front and the dark timber floor, the ceiling is a collection of low flying ovoid forms, which gently glow. This buzzing venue serves innovative modern urban cuisine in chic surroundings.

What a disappointment. After reading the reviews I was looking forward to a good meal but it really didn't live up to it. The starter of blue cheese and pear consisted of tinned pear and a quenelle of blue cheese mixed with cram cheese, the pork rillette served in a jar but contained so much fat it was inedible. The salmon au poivre had a mere shaking of pepper on it and was the greasiest salmon I've ever had. The beef cheek was tender. There was a lack of vegetables and no condiments offered not even salt & pepper on the tables. Blasts of cold air coming up from the open lobby doors. Staff were attentive but I wouldn't return. I think the only other diners in the restaurant that evening were on a package with dinner included as part of their stay
