Artisan Restaurant, Galway
When talking to foodies about this nosh spot on Quay Street (above Neachtain's Pub) words like "passionate" and "conviction" and "talented" get rather overused. Not to say unjustified, this cosy restaurant is indeed wonderful. Scoring high on the scale of all things delicious are antipasti, chestnut risotto, seafood and the steak. Staff are very nice, bill could induce a minor cold sweat, but all things considered, if you haven't been - go. Phone 091-523655 for bookings.

On Saturday, there's a Spraoi at Spanish Arch, a circus at Nimmo's Pier, and a family workshop afternoon in the Galway City Museum, where you can make your own Hooker. Check out the coolest sailing boats in the world that compete in a sport akin to "standing under a cold shower ripping up 500 euro notes." For more go to http://www.galwayvolvooceanrace.com/

And noooow, the end is neeeeear. And so Plank faaaces, the final curtaaaain. It's Pat's last night presenting the "world's longest running chatshow" and he's taking the proceedings outside, planning a "huge garden party" for his guests… Expect lots of chat, lots of cooking, lots of comedy and lots of music in what I think will be one of our most unusual Late Late Shows" (more unusual than the last time Pat took the show into the RTE grounds to look at Richie Corrigan frenetically sniffed his way through various recipes?) Along with some "major Hollywood names", Pat promises that his last show will be "a night of firsts". We're bound to be entertained, so.

Milk
Biopics are notoriously difficult to strike a balance with, but Gus Van Sant's Milk is a rare fact-based film that will educate and enthral its audience in equal measure. Harvey Milk was the first openly gay official to take major office in the US - proving that persistence was crucial in the dog-eat-dog world of politics by running for office three times, until he eventually won the role of city supervisor of San Francisco in 1977. Penn is excellent, plain and simple - in fact, this may actually be the best performance he has ever given. Fanatastic work from all concerned, Milk begs a viewing as one of the best biopics in recent memory. Read The Review

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Their last album, 2006's 'It's Never Been Like That', hardly made the French quartet a household name, but its glorious jangly groove did nudge them further toward the mainstream and set them up nicely for potential world domination with album #4. Dreamy, '80s disco-referencing number 'Rome', the punchy 'Lasso' and the fuzzy amble of instrumentals 'Love Like A Sunset (Pt. 1 and 2)', are about the most interesting tracks here - but from a band we expect so much more than something to tap your foot to, it's something of a slight disappointment overall. Chocolan Sauvignon Blanc
Although only 12 years old Chocalan has had a rapid rise to fame and is currently picking up awards all over the place. This is a family owned and run business and part of its success is down to employing top wine people such as one of Chile's most prestigious grapes growers and winemakers Edourdo Silva, he chose the sites and acts as their consultant. Drain the pasta, add the chicken/French beans/broccoli from pan, and mix together with some sundried tomato pesto until ingredients full covered. Then mix in some crumbled feta, semi-sundried tomatoes, rocket leaves and the toasted pine nuts. Garnish with chives or scallions. FEAST.
